Dive into the art of storytelling through wearable art in this immersive bead embroidery class, where students will create a stunning statement necklace featuring a focal cabochon by Firespell Designs, richly textured cork backing, and elegant fringe accents.
In this class, participants will explore a variety of techniques including:
• Bead embroidery bezels around flat-back cabochons
• Securely backing and edging with cork fabric for a unique, earthy texture
• Incorporating seed beads, crystals, and embellishments to frame a portrait piece
• Adding dimensional drops and metallic fringe for movement and drama
• Creating a bead-woven tube bail for a clean, professional finish
This project celebrates visual contrast—soft and structured, vintage and modern, natural and metallic. Students will leave with a completed or nearly completed necklace and the skills to translate their own artistic inspirations into wearable heirlooms.
Skill Level: All levels
Duration: 2-session format
Techniques Covered: Bead embroidery, fringe making, bezel setting with beads, creating beaded bails.
Supplies Provided: Printed portrait component, cork backing, seed beads, focal cabochon, fringe elements, and backing material.
Students Bring: Size 11 or 12 beading needles, preferred beading thread, beading mat, scissors, e6000 Glue, white tacky glue.
